What Are Dental Crowns?
Dental crowns are custom-made caps that cover damaged or weak teeth and restore their shape, size, strength, and appearance. Crowns are often used in cases of severe decay, fractures, or after root canal treatment.
During an initial consultation, we will perform an oral exam to determine if a crown is best for you. If so, we prepare the tooth by removing damage or decay and shaping it to accommodate the crown.
Afterward, we take a digital impression of your prepared tooth and use it to create your restoration. Once the crown is ready, we will fix it on your tooth using a safe adhesive.
What Are Dental Bridges?
Instead of going over a damaged tooth, dental bridges replace one or more missing teeth. They consist of artificial teeth, called pontics, with crowns on both sides. The crowns hold the bridge in place by attaching to adjacent natural teeth or dental implants.
If you need a traditional bridge, we shape the adjacent teeth to make room for the bridge’s dental crowns. Then, we use digital impressions of your teeth to create a custom bridge. During a second appointment, we place it and make adjustments to make sure it fits and aligns with your bite.
Benefits of Crowns and Bridges
Restore the functionality of your teeth
Improve the appearance of your smile
Prevent further damage or decay
Maintain proper alignment of your teeth and jaw
Are Crowns and Bridges Permanent?
While crowns and bridges are strong and can last long, you may need to replace them after a few years because of regular use or changes in your oral health. Taking good care of them at home and seeing our team at least twice a year can help them stay in good shape for years.
